Rococo is an artistic movement and style, affecting many aspects including painting, sculpture, architecture, interior design, decoration, literature, music, and theater. It originated in Paris in the early 18th century as a reaction againstthestrict regulations of the Baroque and was soon adopted throughout France and later in other countries, principally Germany and Austria.

Celebrated mid-century designer Saul Bass designed the original poster for Vertigo, which used spiral graphics, a two-tone color palette and jaunty, unnerving text to create a feeling of unsettling instability for the viewer.
