Get Rid of Dummy Content by Using lists.design

In today’s quick tip I’ll help you make your web designs and mockups as realistic as possible by getting rid of dummy content. Generic dummy text can be really helpful in giving a design “body”, but it often removes an element of context, ultimately making the design weaker. Let’s improve that!

In the past I’ve explained how to use the Craft plugin for Sketch, but today we’ll be looking at a service called “Lists”. Lists provides a whole heap of content, organized into categories such as:

  • Business
  • Communication
  • Design
  • Education
  • Entertainment
  • Finance
  • Food
  • Health
  • Identity

and many more. Clicking these filters will give you category-specific results:

Explore any results you like, then click once on the chosen item to copy it to your clipboard. That can then be pasted into your design tool of choice.

JSON

Additionally, you can get hold of the content in JSON form. This is perfect for using JavaScript to parse and populate UI elements dynamically; for example dropdowns with lists of countries. Take a look at the video for more details.
